BREAKTHROUGH MANCHESTER PROGRAM

The Middle School Summer Program (rising 7th, 8th, & 9th Graders)
- Intensive six-week daily summer program held at The Derryfield School delivering an intentionally crafted combination of rigorous academics mixed with fun, high-energy summer experiences to prevent the proverbial “summer slide.”
- Rigorous instruction in math, literature, writing, and science
- Strong focus on leadership skills and community building
- Emphasis on social justice teaching and learning
- Extracurriculars in a variety of fields determined by Teaching Fellows passions
- Seminars on financial literacy and nutrition
- Talent show every week as well as many other opportunities to present in front of a large group.
- Field trips to college campuses, cultural sites, a Star Island retreat, Boston city visit, and a minor league baseball game round out the summer!


The School Year Program (7th & 8th graders)
- Five Super Saturdays held at Derryfield throughout the school year
- Each month has its own theme such as
- Identity & Belonging
- Developing Soft Skills
- Heroes in History
- Empowerment Day
- Languages Around the World
- Developing Effective Communication Skills
- Teaching Interns are Juniors & Seniors from Manchester area high schools
College-Bound Program at Southern New Hampshire University (9th – 12th Graders)
- Skill-Building Saturdays throughout the school year
- 9th Grade focus on further developing essential, soft skills
- 10th Grade focus on initial college search, test prep, and job skills
- 11th Grade focus on college search, application, and financial aid
- 12th Grade focus on FAFSA, final decision, college-readiness, and college success
- Campus visits, Connections with Professionals, and Community Service Opportunities
- Dedicated Advisors are current college students and recent graduates


Teaching Fellow Program
- For college students and high school juniors and seniors interested in learning to teach and developing leadership skills
- Nine weeks of intensive teaching and learning activities
- Includes six weeks of daily educator experience from lesson planning to classroom management
- Daily coaching from professional educators on all aspects of teaching
School Year Teaching Internship
- For High School Junior and Senior Students interested in teaching and gaining valuable leadership and education experience
- School Year Teachers get trained and plan their own 50-minute classes
- Co-Teach 7th and 8th graders during 5 super Saturdays
- School Year Teachers provide support to our Breakthrough middle schoolers by providing in-person tutoring as well as mentoring through monthly check-ins with students.
