Summer Dean of Students
The Dean of Students is responsible for supporting students and Teaching Fellows in maintaining a safe and productive community during our summer session. The Dean of Students trains Teaching Fellows to design and implement proactive and positive behavior management strategies and establish clear and effective routines and procedures in their classrooms. The Dean of Students meets with students as needed to address social, behavioral, or disciplinary concerns and collaboratively establish an action plan for improvement. The Dean of Students also contacts Breakthrough families when warranted, building and fostering relationships by keeping parents in the loop around their child’s overall performance at Breakthrough.
Summer Dean of Faculty
The Dean of Faculty is responsible for supporting Teaching Fellows in maintaining a safe and productive learning environment for all students and teachers. They serve as a consultant to teachers in matters of classroom management, teaching methods, and general school procedures. They will oversee standing committees’ structure and operations. They will work with the Directors to plan and coordinate orientation week and Professional Development throughout the summer session. Weekly meetings with faculty will deal both with routine school and community matters and with the stimulating exchange of ideas on issues of educational and philosophical interest and concern.
Summer Instructional Coach (math, science, literature or writing)
Instructional Coaches are professional educators who are responsible for supporting Teaching Fellows in maintaining an academically rigorous, safe, and productive learning environment for all students and teachers during our summer program. They provide guidance in matters of curriculum and classroom management, teaching methods, and general school procedures. They are present on campus Monday through Thursday to support Teaching Fellows through observations and daily department meetings.
Breakthrough will engage 4 Instructional Coaches, one in each core academic area: math, science, literature, and writing. The primary responsibility is to support six Teaching Fellows with curriculum development and implementation, ensuring that content and academic skills are high quality, presented meaningfully, and appropriately rigorous for Breakthrough students. They will observe classes and provide verbal and written feedback on teaching and classroom management techniques.
School Year Instructional Coach
The School Year Instructional Coach is a professional educator who is responsible for supporting Teaching Fellows in maintaining a safe, and productive learning environment for all students and teachers during our school year program. They provide guidance in matters of curriculum planning, classroom management, and teaching methods. They are present for interview night, 3 part orientation, 5 trainings and 5 Super Saturdays.
